Creating Sellable Inventory (Variants)

After creating base items, you need to add variants - the actual inventory you can sell with specific pricing and stock quantities.

Understanding Base Items vs Variants

  • Base Item: The general product template (e.g., "Samsung Galaxy S24")
  • Variants: Specific versions with pricing and stock (e.g., "Samsung Galaxy S24 - 128GB Black - Main Store")

:::tip Think of it like this

  • Base Item = The product concept
  • Variants = The actual items you can sell :::

Accessing Variant Creation

After creating a base item, you'll see the Item Details page. This page shows:

  • Product photos and information
  • Attributes you defined
  • A "Variants" section (empty at first)
  • "Add Variant" floating button

Step 1: Add Your First Variant

Tap the "Add Variant" floating button at the bottom right.

Step 2: Select Variant Attributes (if applicable)

If your category has variant attributes (like Size, Color), you'll see an attribute selector:

  1. Choose which attributes make this variant unique
  2. Tap "Continue"

Step 3: Fill in Variant Details

Now you'll complete the variant form with specific information:

Branch

Select which branch this stock belongs to. Each variant is associated with a specific location.

Supplier

Choose who you bought this from, or tap to add a new supplier.

Variant Attributes

Fill in specific values for this variant:

  • Size (e.g., "Large", "XL", "42")
  • Color (e.g., "Red", "Blue", "Black")
  • Condition (e.g., "New", "Used")
  • Any other attributes specific to your category

Buying Price

What you paid for this specific variant. This is used to calculate profit.

Selling Price

What you'll charge customers for this variant.

:::tip Pricing Strategy Ensure your selling price is higher than buying price to maintain profitability. Common markups range from 20% to 100% depending on your industry. :::

Quantity

How many units you have in stock for this specific variant.

Minimum Stock

Set a reorder point. When stock falls below this level, you'll receive low stock alerts.

Step 4: Save the Variant

  1. Review all information carefully
  2. Tap "Add Variant"
  3. Your variant will appear in the variants table on the Item Details page

Pro Tips for Variants

  • Create separate variants for different sizes, colors, or conditions
  • Each variant can have different pricing based on attributes
  • Track stock separately for each variant
  • Set appropriate minimum stock levels to avoid stockouts
  • Use consistent naming for variant attributes (e.g., always "Black" not "black" or "BLACK")

Example: Adding Variants for a Clothing Item

For a "Men's T-Shirt" base item, you might create these variants:

SizeColorBranchBuying PriceSelling PriceQuantity
SRedMain Store100 ETB150 ETB10
MRedMain Store100 ETB150 ETB15
LRedMain Store100 ETB150 ETB12
SBlueMain Store100 ETB150 ETB8
MBlueMain Store100 ETB150 ETB20
LBlueMain Store100 ETB150 ETB10

Each combination of size and color is a separate variant with its own stock and pricing.
